Geraldine “Geri” Elizabeth Haas, 84, of Lehighton, died peacefully in her home on Thursday, May 11, 2017. She was the wife of the late Robert Calvin Haas, owner of Haas‘ Groceries. They were married 59 years.
Geri was first and foremost a devoted wife and loving mother. Her other love was Girl Scouting. Geri was an active member and leader for 57 years. She received the highest Girl Scouting award for adults - the Honor Pin in 1997. She also received the 50 Year Service Award, Girl Scout Friendship Award, Great Valley Council Outstanding Service Award, and Outstanding Leader Award. Geri was the co-program director of Shady Grove G.S. Camp in Palmerton for 8 years. She was also active in the Faith Alive United Methodist Church in Bowmanstown and a member of the Faithful Believers Group. Geri always looked forward to election season and working at the polls. She was an avid volunteer with Lehighton Pool Pals, a past member of Blue Mountain Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, the Red Cross Blood Mobile, and the Lehighton Festival Committee. She received the 1999 Lehighton Volunteer of the Year Award, the 2005 Lehighton Citizen of the Year Award, and the 2011 Community Hero Award. She was a Grand Marshall of the Lehighton Halloween Parade. Geri also enjoyed participating in the Ruby Bells Red Hat Society. She was a 1951 graduate of Lehighton Area High School.
Born in Little Gap, January 2, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Marion (George) Bollinger and a step daughter of the late Dora (Bowen) Bollinger. Surviving are her daughters Debra Beltzner, wife of Douglas Beltzner, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, Kathy Umstaedter, wife of Kevin Umstaedter, of Naples, Italy, and Robyn Eismont, wife of Chris Eismont, of Easton, Pennsylavania. Grandchildren; Laura Martin, Sara Jane Horne, Brian Beltzner, Ryan Umstaedter, Daniel Umstaedter, Cassandra Eismont, Gianna Eismont and great grandchildren Georgia Horne, Bonnie Horne, and Rosemary Horne. Predeceased by step brother Thomas Polk.
She will always be loved and missed by her family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 16th at 11AM at Schaeffer Funeral Home 3rd & Alum Sts. Lehighton, Committal Service to follow at Lehighton Cemetery.
